COVID-19 – An unprecedented threat
The church of St John the Baptist has stood in the corner of Penshurst Place’s parkland since at least 1170. Only in the Civil war of the 1640s has it faced such a grave threat to its work as presented by the coronavirus outbreak today. Although the virus has forced the doors of the church to close, our rector continues to minister privately to the sick and lonely. You can reach Rev. Tom Holme on 01892 870316.
The impact on the church’s finances
The virus also poses a serious threat to the church’s finances. We face the loss of about one third of the church’s income while the lockdown continues – from lost collections, cancelled fund-raising events, postponed weddings and lost donations from tourists.
